The Cat With The Mat
Article featured in City Kitty's February 2011 Newsletter
We are increasingly faced with a decision of whether to de-mat a cat or shave it down. In the past we have de-matted cats, and I must say it has really bothered me. It is very painful for the cat, regardless of how gentle we try to be. Eventually every cat loses their patience and as groomers that puts us at greater risk of getting bit or scratched.
It also does not fit into our mission statement of "Caring for the Whole Cat, Mind, Body, and Spirit." At City Kitty we don't just care about the cat's coat and skin. We care about their emotional well-being as well. It is for this reason we will no longer be doing this. We are happy to take out a few isolated mats, but if your cat is allowed to get matted it will need to be shaved down. I want the grooming experience for your cherished pet to be a positive one, not one that causes harm to the animal. I think you will understand our policy and hope you will continue to maintain your animal to keep it in optimum condition.
