Let's face it. We are the most overweight nation in the world. This is also reflected in our pets. An overweight pet brings on the same health concerns as people, including diabetes, heart and vascular problems and thyroid issues. And if they are overweight, most likely they are not eating a healthy species appropriate diet.
Dry food is the worst culprit as it is carbohydrate loaded and cats cannot handle carbohydrates. This turns into sugar and then a whole series of problems begins. Cats are obligate carnivores and a diet consisting of meat is what they are built for. When a cat is on a species appropriate diet you will have a healthier cat with less health issues.
Since cats are not water drinkers and should be getting their moisture from what they eat, a grain free can food, or better yet, a raw food diet will ensure your cat is not dehydrated. Talk to your local healthy pet store for some suggestions on brands.
We also are selling Kymythy Schultz's book, the leading cat nutritionist in the nation, which recalls the history of a cat's diet as well as nutritional information and recipes for making your own cat food. This sells for $10 and worth every penny.
